Vienna Convention Bureau at IMEX

Audio-reactive wall installation using 135 iPads

The Vienna Convention Bureau presented their new iPad App, the “Vienna Meeting Planners’ Guide” at the 2013 IMEX Convention in Frankfurt. The app is a convenient tool for event managers to stay up to date with all the latest information on event locations, incentive opportunities or accommodation options. To draw the visitors’ attention to their new service, the Vienna Convention Bureau hired us to create a head-turning installation at their presentation booth.

Since the app was launched for the iPad first, the logical tool to create an art installation was the ipad itself. To create a jaw dropper we decided to go simply big in numbers and decorated the back wall with 135 iPads. To add a little more magic to the installation, we created a custom app that supposedly only showcased a slideshow of images. But once people started conversations in front of the wall, it started to react. We used the iPads built in microphones to trigger animation sequences spreading over the iPad wall. The effect was surprising and helped to remember the product.

We always love to hear that our work completed its mission successfully. According to our client, the iPark installation was “talk of IMEX”. No wonder that even the chair man of IMEX Group stopped by at the booth to check out the new “Vienna Meeting Planner’s Guide”.
