Gas Connect Austria operates the infrastructure that acts as the central hub in the European natural gas grid. Compressor stations along the pipelines ensure constant flow of gas by cleaning, measuring and compressing it. In the eight compressor stations all over Austria the informational animation by Strukt informs about this process. An interactive version is available on the website of Gas Connect Austria. The print version is used in information brochures.

Strukt created a clean visual language to communicate the complex process:

Additionally to the animations Strukt programmed two flash-widgets presenting live data about Lake Constance in an attractive way.

This is the new harbour building in Bregenz called „Die Welle“, where the touchscreen terminals are placed.

Strukt is responsible for the corporate identity of the festival. This task incoporates the creation of a logo, a design and layout guideline, and a trailer to announce the festival.

The trailer, created under the direction of Michael Seiser, is a mix of video footage (shot with a Canon 7D) and animated typographic elements. It contrasts the analog real world with virtual digital elements, which finally form the NODE logo.

NODE10 is organised by Node e.V. in cooperation with the Frankfurter Kunstverein and the vvvv group, notably David Brüll, Ingolf Heinsch and Strukt’s Thomas Hitthaler.

The 5-minute trailer opened the event on June 16 2010 at Semper Depot Vienna:

With the trailer Unit F celebrated its 10th anniversary and the 30 winners of the Austria Fashion Award from 2000-2009 and introduces the 2010 awards at Semper Depot Vienna. Strukt was also responsible for the live visuals, curated by sound:frame festival, and the projections of the nominee videos and winners during the show.

In a tight production schedule of only 6 days a stage was built in our studio, where our animators could set up and film various objects on spinning mirror stages. With two projectors the content, videos, text and live generated images from vvvv were projected onto the objects.

From October 30th to November 3rd Strukt will be on location in Tokyo, designing the interactive digital wallpaper at the exhibtion, as well as creating the club visuals in two locations, the Superdeluxe and the Club Velour. The documentation of the project will be featured on this page in November.

Opening titles and end credits

Strukt was invited to design and animate the opening titles featuring the Spot On Wien Logo, which are used for all documentaries and interviews. Built around the black shape of the Spot On Wien Logo, which depicts two lightning flashes, Strukt constructed an abstract and dense world of photographic equipment based on the key visual given by Juland.

On-location work

For the duration of the “100% design tokyo” fair Strukt members were on-location in Tokyo to do live-visual performances for the fairs’s opening day, a fashion show showcasing Austrian designers at Le Velours and a dance-performance night at Superdeluxe Club.

The opening titles were presented at the press conference in Vienna on September 16th 2009.





Strukt was on location to manage the projection installations for the Spot On Wien booth at 100% Design Tokyo.

At Verlours Club Strukt was responsible for the visuals that accompanied a fashion show and a live performance by Ogris Debris.

For the “Night of Dance” a 4-projector setup was used for room-filling graphical visuals to support music acts like Elektro Guzzi, Dorian Concept, Bnckd and more.

Strukt Studio was asked to put these amazing sceneries to life by animation. The resulting video clips were handed out to all global representatives and they are part of the Austria-wide campaign that was launched in April 2009.

Following the magic show, further animation and amusement for the children was provided by the Tagtool artists and Patrick Pätmuckl, who motivated the kids to unleash their imagination and actively participate in operating Tagtool themselves.

The Walt Disney production of “Hexe Lilli” allowed the colourful characters that were based on the same named popular children’s book series created by the author “Knister” to come alive on the big screen. The director was none other than the oscar-winning Austrian filmmaker Stefan Ruzowitzky. The cast included the talented young actress Aline Freund as “Hexe Lilli” and the German comedian Michael Mittermeier who dubbed the loveable animated character “Drache Hektor”.

This package included the design of a key visual and the application of it on a variety of print products like the invitation, media folders, large backdrop banners and more. Also we worked together with the architect to create 3D visualizations of the event for the planning phase. The main part of our work was to create three featurettes to introduce the vintage racing cars Auto Union Type D and Audi Le Mans, and finally the actual Audi R8. We also produced a set of animated loops to be used as visuals for different scenes of the event. As part of our services we were flown out to New Delhi to do quality control on location and finish the animations and graphics considering essential last minute changes and required adjustments to the technical specifications.

In the entrance area of the German Embassy a large backdrop banner welcomed the guests.

A path guided the guests through the gate to the main stage. On the LED wall to the left and also on the projection behind the stage the animated key visual was shown.

Welcome Area
We created 15 animated clips in full HD to welcome the guests to the event, presenting design quotes we picked, and set them in relation to design elements of the new Mercedes-Benz GLK. We used the element of a pencil drawing construction lines and the typeface building the quotes. For this purpose we custom-made the typeface based on the corporate font of Mercedes-Benz.

Exhibition Visuals
With the node-based programming language VVVV we built a letter-universe which functioned as a soothing ambient visual but also created type-matrix pictures and fonts to feature the participants of “The design:project”. The real-time animation was screened on a 20 meter wide 3x-HD projection using only one computer to create the output signals. This system was later on also used to screen content during the award ceremony. For convenience we enabled OSC commands to control the letter-universe with the help of an iPod Touch.

Party Visuals
To heat up the party after the award ceremony we created a sound-reactive visual application, also based on VVVV and shown with the 3x-HD-projection. The controls for the visuals were handled with a 15-inch Stantum multi-touch screen running a custom made interface.

Tagtool
Additionally we worked together with O.M.A. International, who supported us with live-drawings done with their award winning Tagtool.

Since the event in Stuttgart in September 2008 was received very well, we were invited to also bring our work to Milan, Italy, where “The design:project” was also featured in a similar set-up in the beginning of October 2008.
